Formula North was a multi-day design engineering competition. Click here to see the cars zoom. An archive of competitions can also be found on Facebook. After participating in the Formula SAE design series for 5 years during university, I joined Formula North for 4 seasons. Formula North Inc. is the energetic group who founded and ran the Canadian competition from 2012-2018. Participating as a professional built on many skills I acquired as a student, such as public speaking, design, marketing, and recruitment. I was the Art Director for 4 years, and additionally the Marketing and Business presentation lead for 2 years. The greatest reward each year was facilitating an amazing experience for the students and volunteers - just as I had for my 5 seasons. Formula North Keychain/Bottle opener development. The idea was to create a functional piece of art out of the company's logo. I designed two versions in CAD and developed my own font in Illustrator. "Toolpath" is a CNC-optimized font to reduce cut times by enabling single passes for each letter. These 3D shapes were then imported into CAD and recessed into the surface of the part. After inital tests on the CNC machine, a first run of 50 keychains was produced for the 2014 competition. These parts were milled out of aluminum, sanded, and finished by hand. Red paint was added before sealing for contrast. While a second run of "North" keychains were later mass produced, this first batch holds a special place in memory. 2015 competition shirt 2016 competition shirt 2017 competition shirt
